Kaiden Tansu (Step Chest)
This piece was designed and crafted while studying Advanced Woodworking and Furniture Design at NAIT in 2005/06.
This Kaiden Tansu chest was inspired by the clean lines of Japanese furniture which I was enamored with at the time. The case is made from Black Walnut and the drawer sides are fir. The case construction is completed with dovetail joinery and the “piston fit” drawers are hand-cut dovetail joinery.
